Refers to the National Liberal Club which
was, for a time, a sort of drop-in, day centre for Liberals. The Party
organisation was based there - for a time in the basement Gents loos -
and the building also hosted various lodges of freemasons who, following
refurbishments, the introduction of dress regulations and a more radical
club membership, vacated the premises
